Volunteering at School: A Journey of Pride, Connection, and Growth

Last year marked the conclusion of my volunteering commitment at the children's schools, culminating in a final award, which I am proud to receive, although I always think they are slightly too extravagant for my tastes. However, it's a moment of genuine pride and humility, to receive these acknowledgements. Carefully prepared, they convey gratitude for all volunteers, emphasising the collaborative partnership that has been established.

Other parents often enquire why I dedicate so much effort to volunteering - there are three reasons:

Our children's educational phase is fleeting, and such moments are crucial for parental involvement. Engaging in their school lives, which take up a significant portion of their time, provides an additional avenue for staying connected to them.

Demonstrating appreciation for the educators and school staff by offering assistance where needed. Schools frequently face understaffing during various occasions and events, and active participation and contribution are a means of giving back to the community.

Establishing relationships and forming bonds with like-minded parents, connections that could potentially last a lifetime, even after the kids have graduated. These not only offer friendships but might pave the way for collaborations and opportunities in the future.

My volunteering experience has been immensely rewarding, and as the children move on to new chapters in their lives, I hold on to the memories and kinship cultivated through the years, knowing they continue to shape me beyond the confines of the school grounds.
